Navatu Kava Bar owner Joe Morell said the situation was becoming increasingly worrying for local businesses.
“Business owners are starting to worry their shops will go under water again whenever there’s a heavy downpour due to these blocked drainage,” Mr Morell said.
He said there was a need to improve the drainage system across the town.
Labasa Town Council Chair Paul Jaduram confirmed the council was aware of the ongoing drainage issues. “We are aware of the issue and are working on addressing it,” Mr Jaduram said.
Residents and business operators are calling on authorities to prioritise drainage maintenance to prevent further flooding and potential property damage, especially with the upcoming cyclone season.
