BA will welcome overseas all-stars and local football clubs to Govind Park for five days of action when the Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup kicks off on November 25, bringing together teams from across the Pacific and North America.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf announced the tournament at yesterday’s pool draws, with competitions featuring senior teams, under-16 boys, U16 girls and Over-50 Masters.
Ba FC, Rewa FC, Navua FC and Labasa FC will represent Fiji in the main competition.
Adding extra excitement to the senior grade will be a Canadian all-star team making its first appearance. Made up of Fijians living in Canada and four guest players, the side will join USA All-Stars, AUFFI All-Stars, AUFFI Australia All-Stars, NZFFI Auckland All-Stars and NZFFI Manukau All-Stars.
Yusuf said the tournament continued to bring together leading local clubs and overseas all-star sides.
The U16 boys division will feature Canada, Australia, two Auckland-based teams and Fiji, while the U16 girls competition will bring together four teams representing North America, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
Yusuf said introducing the girls division was another welcome addition to this year’s tournament.
“This year’s competition … will also have another added value. There is a girls U16 division as well,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Over-50 Masters competition will feature all-star teams from Australia and New Zealand, alongside two Fiji teams selected by the veterans committee.
With eight games scheduled each day, supporters can expect plenty of football across the five-day tournament. Matches will run for 60 minutes instead of the standard 90.
Hosted this year by the American Fiji Soccer Association, the tournament rotates between communities and began in Auckland in 2012.
Yusuf also thanked Flick Hygiene for supporting the event.
