The Pacific Polytech Institute of Technology celebrated a significant milestone this week as it honoured 411 graduates across various programs.

The celebration at Pacific Polytech Institute of Technology in Nabua had Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Education, Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka as chief guest.

“We must continue to promote education in our families, communities, and ‘vanua’ so that they become independent and have a bright future ahead,” Mr Gavoka said.

“Educating women is empowering our communities, as women in most communities spearhead development to improving livelihoods at grassroot levels.”

Among the graduates were individuals from diverse backgrounds, representing programs such as Hospitality & Tourism, Automotive & Construction, Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, and Restaurant Services.

The graduation showcased the institute’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, with 263 female graduates and 148 male graduates.

Reflecting on the broader impact of education, he emphasised the importance of promoting learning within families, communities, and the wider society.

“Whether you choose to pursue further education, enter the workforce, or start your own ventures, remember that you have the power to shape the future and make your mark on the world.

“Success is not measured by personal achievements but also by the positive impact you have on others and the communities.”

Lisa Cagimaivei, 38, a mother of two, who graduated with a certificate in Front office operations, said having been out of school for a long time, at first it was hard to adjust.

“Now we can go out there and work and provide for our families,” she said.
