Opposition spokesman on Indigenous Affairs and the Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu says Fijians realise that politics in Fiji will continue to be race-based.
Speaking in response to President Jioji Konrote’s speech in Parliament yesterday, Ratu Naiqama said that although he agreed with Mr Konrote’s call that a national conversation during and after elections should be based purely on policies, principles and truth, it was vital for every Fijian to also recognise this reality given that there were different ethnicities in the country.
“I do not celebrate the unfortunate fact that our politics will continue to be race-based for some time,” Ratu Naiqama said.
“Yes we on this side of the House agree that common sense should prevail and that as a nation, we must look at issues.”
