A 56-year-old man is expected to appear at the Suva Magistrates Court today in relation to a social media post he allegedly made in May this year.
In a statement, Fiji Police said the man is accused of circulating an edited newspaper article on his social media account that contained false and misleading information against two prominent persons.
Though not identified by police, the two persons are believed to be political figures.
Police said the matter was investigated under Section 24 of the Online Safety Act 2018, which relates to Causing Harm by Posting Electronic Communication.
The suspect was arrested in Nadi yesterday and has since been charged with one count of Causing Harm by Posting Electronic Communication, contrary to Section 24(1)(a), (b) and (c) of the Online Safety Act.
