UNDER overcast skies at the National Netball Centre in Suva, the Fiji Police Wives Netball and Volleyball Tournament unfolded on its second and final day yesterday.

Teams from the force’s various divisions and stations across the country convened at the centre to battle it out in various matches.

The tournament was opened by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu on Thursday, and he told participants of the crucial roles they played in ensuring their spouses were well supported.

“The Fiji Police Force has gone through a lot over the years and it is the police officers who have endured a lot,” Tudravu shared to them.

“But behind them, you are standing there silently supporting your loved ones.”

“I want to thank you all. The overall success of the Fiji Police Force also depends on you.”

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the netball centre yesterday was an intense yet jovial one as matches were held with the Fiji Police Jazz Band serenading the players, spectators and families gathered to watch the wives of police officers fight for supremacy.

While the wives were in full swing with serves and passes of varying degree, the competition had an ulterior motive behind it.

It was to select a Police Wives team that would go on to play at the 2025 Annual Sukuna Bowl challenge later this year.

The Police Wives team is the reigning champion of the volleyball competition, while the Army Wives team are the defending champions of the netball competition.
