A NEW champion will be crowned this Saturday when Police take on Capital Insurance Newtown Rugby Club in the 2025 Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union Premier 15s Competition final.
Police are aiming to win their third title in four years after their successes in 2022 and 2023.
Newtown last lifted the trophy in 2017 and are hungry to reclaim glory.
Nasinu RFU executive committee member and assistant general secretary Doni Wainiqolo said, “Saturday promises a classic encounter between two contrasting styles. Police bring championship pedigree with their disciplined structure, while Newtown’s semifinal upset showed their explosive attacking flair.”
“We’re anticipating a physical forward battle, particularly at the breakdown, and potentially game-changing contributions from both benches,” he added.
The Ram Sami Nasinu RFU Premier 15s Competition is the flagship domestic tournament of the Union, proudly supported by major sponsor Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Ltd. for eight consecutive seasons.
Revived in 2016 after a 14-year hiatus, the Union was reborn with a clear mission: to use rugby as a catalyst for youth development in Nasinu, Fiji’s most populous town.
Faced with challenges such as school dropouts, youth crime, drug abuse, mental health struggles, poverty and NCDs, rugby is seen as a unique tool to: create alternative pathways by transitioning at-risk youth into structured programs with mentorship, education and vocational opportunities.
Wainiqolo added, “Most importantly, this final represents the best of Nasinu rugby, the two form teams of this year’s competition going head-to-head. Nothing but fireworks and pride will be on display.”
The Nasinu Rugby Football Union works with key stakeholders like Nasinu Town Council, Fiji Police Force, and the Ministry of Health to align rugby with broader social initiatives.
Fans and families are encouraged to come out in numbers and celebrate grassroots rugby at its finest.
The match kicks off at 10.30am at St Marcellin Primary School Ground in Vatuwaqa.
