A police investigation into allegations involving the permanent secretary for iTaukei Affairs is imminent after a formal complaint was lodged with authorities.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the development, saying the matter is now before investigators.

“We can confirm that the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, has met with the Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, and formally lodged a complaint, whereby all allegations stated by his permanent secretary Jone Navakamocea against the minister will be analysed,” she said.

“A team from the CID will analyse the allegations, and any criminal elements found will be investigated.”

In a statement, the Office of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs stated Mr Vasu had formally requested police to investigate allegations made against him in the public domain.

The office stated the move was taken in the interest of transparency and accountability, and to ensure all matters are dealt with through proper legal processes.

It welcomed an independent investigation and expressed confidence that the facts would be established.

The statement also urged the public to act responsibly and avoid spreading unverified information as the matter is assessed.

The case centres on claims made by the permanent secretary, which had since drawn public attention and prompted calls for clarity.

Police say the Criminal Investigations Department will now assess the allegations and determine whether any criminal offences have been committed.
