Police have neither confirmed nor denied whether arrests were made yesterday in connection with the major drug seizure at Vatia Wharf, where more than 100 sacks of suspected cocaine were seized last Friday.
The Fiji Times had sent queries to Police this morning to confirm if arrests were made yesterday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said investigations into the matter were still ongoing and cautioned against speculation that could undermine police work.
“The outcome of the investigation will be released upon its completion,” Ms Naisoro said.
She stressed that public commentary while investigations are still underway could be damaging.
“The investigation process must not be compromised by running media commentary, as there are pieces of information which, if released too early, could jeopardise ongoing efforts,” she said.
The large-scale seizure at Vatia has been described as one of the most significant drug hauls in recent years, with the substances believed to be cocaine.
Police have so far confirmed the seizure but have remained guarded about operational details.
The seizure has heightened public concern about drug trafficking activities, particularly through maritime routes.
