Police conduct searches on youths – FIJI POLICE

With Christmas just days away, Fiji Police have stepped up night-time operations focusing on youth loitering and vehicle checks, as part of efforts to prevent crime and keep communities safe during the festive season.

In a statement, Police said night operations teams have been actively conducting stop-and-search operations on vehicles and engaging with youths found loitering in public areas after hours.

The intensified operations come as public movement increases during the festive period, with Police aiming to deter opportunistic crimes such as theft, assault and alcohol-related incidents.

Police thanked the public, especially young people and their families, for cooperating with officers on the ground.

“If you see any suspicious movement of people or vehicles, call Crimestoppers on 919 or the National Command Centre on 9905296,” Police said.

Police stressed that the approach is preventative rather than punitive, with officers engaging youths, advising them to return home safely, and working with communities to reduce risk.
