SEVERAL snap checkpoints and searches around the country have resulted in the seizure of illicit substances.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Livai Driu said divisional task forces had set up checkpoints based on tips and information gathered.
He said searches were conducted on individuals who were found acting in a suspicious manner.
He said a Southern Division team conducted a spot check on Saturday afternoon on a group of youths loitering at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach. A man in his 20s was found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
ACP Driu said a tip-off in the Northern Division led to the arrest of a man involved in the alleged sale and distribution of marijuana. After his house was searched, several clear plastics containing dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, were seized.
The man remains in police custody.
ACP Driu also said other raids and snap checks had resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs such as methamphetamine and marijuana.
“Those we find loitering or acting in a suspicious manner will be searched and warned to leave if they do not have any valid reason for being where they’re found,” he said.
“We are going to be aggressive in our intent of reducing the harm and supply of drugs.”
