Police seize 5,600 marijuana plants in North

Police have seized more than 5,600 plants believed to be marijuana during a drug operation in the Northern Division, with one suspect taken into custody.

The Fiji Police Force said the Northern Division Operations Sasamaki team carried out the operation after pursuing information gathered during an investigation into the alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

The operation led officers to a farm in the Qaravutu farming area, where they discovered more than 5,600 green plants suspected to be marijuana.

The plants were seized and taken into police custody, where they will undergo analysis to confirm their composition.

A suspect was taken into custody for questioning, while investigations into the alleged cultivation of the illicit crop continue.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect or indicated whether further arrests are expected.

The Fiji Police Force said investigations remain ongoing.
