The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that an operations team from Savusavu is pursuing several suspects believed to be involved in the alleged attack on government officials in Vusasivo Village, Cakaudrove.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred when the driver of a government vehicle tried to avoid hitting a man who allegedly staggered onto the road while intoxicated. The driver swerved to avoid a collision, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.
Moments later, a group of intoxicated youths allegedly approached the scene, assaulted the driver and passengers, and stole their personal belongings.
All six victims were taken to the Tukavesi Hospital, with two later transferred to the Labasa Hospital for further treatment. Police say one victim remains admitted in stable condition, while the other has been discharged.
Investigators have recorded statements from the victims and are working to locate and arrest those involved.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
