OUTSTANDING payments to police officers, initially promised for the end of this month, will now be made in mid-July and mid-August.
The payments were announced in Parliament earlier this month by Defence Minister Timoci Natuva.
They included payouts for Job Evaluation Exercise (JEE) arrears as well as housing and overtime allowances for special constables.
But yesterday Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald said although the payments had been approved by Mr Natuva, the report reconciling the arrears still needed to be audited.
And this will be done over the next two months.
Payment of the JEE arrears and lodging allowances are expected to be made in mid-July while overtime payments for special constables will be made in mid-August.
“A reviewed report regarding the reconciliation of outstanding JEE payment of officers whose names were omitted from the original list of recipients as well as the underpayment of some officers were compiled and forwarded to the minister’s office on 19 May,” he said.
“Similarly a report on the payout for lodging allowances and overtime for special constables was also submitted.
“While the minister had approved in principle the payment of the arrears, this, however, will only be done after the report is subjected to an audit verification process to be conducted by external auditors.”
Mr Groenewald said this process was also followed for the first payout earlier this year.
“The verification processes will include an audit by external auditors, tax assessment and data input and is expected to take over a month to complete. Therefore, payment of the JEE arrears and lodging allowances are expected to be made in mid-July.”
“With regards to the overtime payment for special constables, similar reconciliation processes will be conducted internally and submitted for external auditing.”
