Several police officers are now under investigation for their alleged role in the kidnapping a businessperson, assaulting him and demanding money from him.
It is alleged the group, which included seven officers, took the 33-year-old victim from his house in Nepani to his factory in Valelevu on July 21.
According to sources, they demanded $15,000 from the businessman, which was allegedly paid in cash and through MPaisa.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the allegation of assault and corrupt practices involving the officers.
He said a report was received July28, 2025.
Commissioner Tudravu has directed the officers be sent on interdiction without pay.
The Fiji Police Force said such claims, while allegations must be investigated to stop further erosion of trust and confidence in policing.
The Commissioner reiterates adequate warnings have been issued, and officers will face the consequences of their actions, if they fail to uphold the integrity of policing and their oath to serve and protect.
