An investigating officer tasked with executing a bench warrant against one Keshneel Prasad has just been arrested and handed over to FICAC in court.
PC Vishneel Shankaran was arrested during court proceedings before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad on allegations of bribery and corruption.
Two of the accused sureties revealed in court that Mr Shankaran had demanded a total of $500 last Saturday.
The accused had not been appearing in court over the past court sittings and today as well because he has been evading police.
James Rattan said he was allegedly demanded $300 while David Kumar was allegedly demanded $200 but he was not able to pay due to payment of his mother’s diaper.
Both men told the court that the payment was for them to be removed as sureties.
Magistrate Mr Prasad said corruption of police officers was an issue in this country alongside the large number of unexecuted warrants.
Mr Shankaran was handcuffed in court and handed over to a FICAC officer for further investigation.
Mr Prasad has discharged both sureties for their cooperation.
