Six men allegedly involved in an unlicensed security group are in police custody following co-ordinated raids across five locations in the Central and Southern divisions.

The raids were carried out in connection with reports of criminal trespass and unauthorised operations by a group posing as security officials.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe said the operation was triggered by a complaint involving alleged security personnel who entered a school premises without permission last week.

“Consecutive raids were conducted at five locations in relation to a report of criminal trespass involving a group operating as security officials,” Mr Vusonilawe said.

“The raids conducted early this morning (yesterday) in the Central and Southern divisions were at the locations where the alleged security officials were operating, and also at their business premises in Nabua.”

While police have not named those involved, the operation follows reports linking the group to a well-known Suva criminal figure.

It is also understood the alleged security outfit may have been providing protection to a high-profile individual connected to major drug trafficking activity.

The Fiji Times had asked police whether the group held any official licence or business registration, and whether any firearm, surveillance equipment, or narcotics was seized during the raids.
Police did not provide responses to those specific questions.
