AN officer of the Fiji Counter Narcotics Bureau and a civilian were allegedly arrested yesterday in a five-kilogram drug bust at the Nadi International Airport, sources have told The Fiji Times.

The officer had allegedly accompanied the man to collect the package, believed to be methamphetamine, that had come through cargo into the country.

The officer is a member of the Fiji Counter Narcotics Bureau that was established in June 2024 which is operating under the Ministry of Policing to tackle the drug problem in the country.

In a controlled operation by police and Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), the officer and the civilian were nabbed on the spot as they went through Customs clearance after picking the package.

The package was addressed to the civilian.

Sources said a third man, who was allegedly the driver of the vehicle used by the three, was arrested soon after.

Last night, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa confirmed the incident, adding a joint statement would be released soon.

The FRCS said it needed time to collect information from their teams before releasing any information.
