Police are investigating a fatal road incident in Nadi in which an 18-year-old student died early yesterday morning after being run over by a vehicle.
Police allege the teenager was intoxicated and had been sleeping along the roadside when he was struck by a passing vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.
The victim was rushed to Nadi Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The Fiji Police Force Director of Traffic Control, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, has urged young people to avoid walking along busy roads while under the influence of alcohol.
“When you are intoxicated, please avoid walking along a busy road. You will only put yourself and other road users at risk,” SSP Divuana said.
The driver remains in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
