Thousands of police officers flooded the streets in an “all hands-on deck” operation to ensure Fiji’s New Year’s Day celebrations didn’t turn to tragedy.
As the clock ticked down on 2025, police stepped up operations from the Eastern Division in Nausori to the long stretch of the Korovou highway where foot patrols and mobile units worked round-the-clock to keep communities safe.
While families soaked up the sun at picnic spots, traffic officers launched ‘snap breathalyser’ operations to weed out lethal drivers.
In a 24-hour blitz, police processed multiple arrests for drunk driving and issued dozens of speeding tickets.
“Make wiser decisions when it comes to road safety,” police urged in a statement pleading for public cooperation.
From Vunidawa to Levuka and Nakasi, the thin blue line remained firm through midnight.
As night ops teams reported off-duty on New Year’s Day, the message to #TeamFiji remained the same: “remain safe and celebrate responsibly” as the 2026 holiday period continues.
