COMMISSIONER of Police Rusiate Tudravu says rebuilding people’s trust in the police force is their main focus right now.

During his first official overseas visit since his appointment, Mr Tudravu took the opportunity to highlight their core focus with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in Brisbane, Australia last week.

Mr Tudravu pointed out the AFP-backed Fiji Police Force’s UPLIFT program which outlined practical guidance on how to implement recommendations from a series of internal and external consultations with the overarching intent of restoring trust and confidence in the Fiji Police Force and achieving excellence in law enforcement.

He said the proposed document would help them ‘put their house in order’.

“Rebuilding trust and confidence is our main priority now, and we recognise that it must start within, by getting our house in order,” Mr Tudravu said. “The recommendations in the UPLIFT draft document, has laid the foundation of what we must do as an organisation to win back the support of our community, and there is no turning back now, since we have the full support of the AFP who have shown their full support and commitment.”

According to the Force, seven pillars make up the UPLIFT policy — Strategy, Planning Governance, Leadership, Integrity and Ethics, Operational Capabilities, Enabling capabilities and Human Resources.
