Police are expected to make arrests soon in relation to an assault incident in Labasa that went viral on social media, prompting swift action from the Fiji Police Force.

Acting Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter, directing officers in Labasa to bring in all individuals involved.

“I have directed our team in Labasa to investigate and get in everyone involved. A dispute over an issue does not give anyone the right to physically assault any person,” Mr Lutunauga said.

He confirmed that all individuals seen in the video will be brought in for questioning, adding that arrests are expected shortly.

Mr Lutunauga described the footage as a troubling reflection of a community turning to violence to resolve conflicts.

“The video evidence is already there and the victim’s medical has been done. We will start charging people soon,” he said.

Police investigations continue.
