A man in his 30s has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of sacrilege cases in Nadi.
In a statement, police said the suspect was arrested by the Western Division Taskforce with recoveries made of a number of religious statues believed to have been stolen.
The suspect was questioned in custody while investigations continue.
In a separate incident in Sawani, five juveniles aged between 15 and 17 were interviewed under caution in the presence of their parents for allegedly stoning a temple last past week.
Police said the five allegedly threw stones that landed on the roof of the temple.
“The investigation file will be summarised and forwarded to the Divisional Crime Officer, who will seek further directions on the next course of action from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” police said.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has reiterated the cases were not politically motivated.
He said that most often, the motive was either for financial gain, internal disputes between members or youths, and juveniles behaving in an unruly manner.
