Police arrested a 31-year-old unemployed Kinoya man over the weekend for allegedly being in possession of illicit drugs believed to be marijuana.

The man was among the passengers onboard a shipping vessel that had arrived in Suva from a maritime island.

Police said the man was found with a blue bag containing four parcels of dried leaves wrapped in clear plastic, believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu confirmed the police team had also found seven clear zip lock plastic, as well as 44 zip lock plastic and 572 branches of dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, wrapped in a black sulu.

“The above parcel was unclaimed; our search on shipping vessels will continue in our efforts on eradicating drugs,” he said.

Last week, ACP Driu said drugs were uprooted in Lau, Levuka, Gau and Taveuni.

He said the Fiji Police Force was glad that stakeholders were providing police with information that had led to drugs being confiscated and suspected persons arrested.
