The victim of an alleged motor vehicle accident along Barara Flats in Lomolomo, Lautoka has been identified as a 25-year-old man from Vunaniu in Serua.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the man was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman in her 20s.
“He was travelling with others who had returned from a night out and were heading towards Lautoka early on Thursday morning,” she said.
Ms Naisoro said investigators had ruled out the woman’s involvement in the alleged incident as witnesses had confirmed that following the initial accident when the vehicle had landed in the drain, the victim had walked away from the scene of the accident towards Nadi.
She said the woman had been charged with one count of careless driving and one count of driving without a licence.
“Investigators are now searching for another vehicle that was allegedly involved in the accident, which has been classified as an alleged hit-and-run accident.”
Ms Naisoro said a post-mortem examination would also be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
