Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will officially open the 100-year celebration of TISI Sangam Fiji at King Charles Park in Nadi on Easter Friday.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for 10.15am, will mark a key highlight of the week-long centennial convention, which is expected to draw thousands of people of South Indian origin from across Fiji and overseas.

National president Parveen Bala said the Prime Minister would officiate as chief guest following traditional proceedings, including a welcome ceremony, cultural performances and speeches.

“The Centennial flame will be passed… and finally to the Prime Minister… who will light the Centennial cauldron—a moment uniting past and present,” Mr Bala said.

The celebrations, running from April 1 to 6, commemorate a century since Sadhu Kuppuswamy and early Girmitiya descendants founded the organisation along the Nadi River in 1926.

Mr Bala said the event would be the largest gathering of people of South Indian origin in Fiji’s history, bringing together delegates, families and members of the global diaspora.

He highlighted the organisation’s contribution to education and nation-building, noting it now manages dozens of schools and institutions serving more than 10,000 students of all backgrounds.

“This is a celebration of 100 years of service, unity and nation-building,” he said.

The centennial theme, “Our Legacy, Our Future”, reflects a commitment to honour the past while shaping future generations, with strong participation from youth and women expected throughout the convention.
