PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will join the Fiji Media Association’s “Meet the Public and the Press” event in Tavua for the first Town Hall meeting to be held in the Western Division.
The event, to be held at the Golden Event Centre from 7pm to 9pm today, will be aired live on social media channels of all of the major mainstream news media outlets in Fiji.
FMA general secretary Stanley Simpson said the town hall meetings were part of their efforts to build and strengthen a culture of democracy, holding leaders to account and making elected representatives responsive to the needs of the people from all areas of the country.
“We are particularly focused on areas that have not had much opportunity to be heard outside of the Capital City and outside of the main urban centres,” said Simpson. “So they are opportunities to strengthen Fiji’s democracy through meaningful engagement between Government and citizens facilitated by the media.”
The second town hall meeting will be held tomorrow at the Kshatriya Hall in Ba from 7pm to 9pm.
