Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka will shorten his official visits to Singapore and Indonesia to return to Fiji for the funeral of the Turaga Ratu i Navatu, Ratu Epeli Mailekutu Wainiu.
“I have had to ask the Governments of Singapore and Indonesia to make adjustments so that I can arrive back into Nadi on Friday 25th, to fly Nadi-Savusavu on Saturday 26th for the funeral, and Labasa-Nausori on Sunday 27th and be in Parliament on Monday 28th,” the Prime Minister said in an interview on ‘A Conversation with the PM’.
Mr Rabuka is currently undertaking official visits to Singapore and Indonesia at the invitation of both governments, aimed at deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
This marks his first official visit to Singapore, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to strengthen economic ties and collaborate on shared priorities, including climate resilience, digital innovation, and education.
In Indonesia, he will hold talks with President Prabowo Subianto focusing on regional security, agriculture, education, and disaster risk management.
Fiji has longstanding diplomatic relations with both Singapore (since 1971) and Indonesia (since 1974), with partnerships built on mutual respect and development cooperation.
While he is away, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka will acting as prime minister.
