Former Fiji citizens meet PM Rabuka in Liverpool yesterday – FIJI GOVT

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has called on Fijians living overseas to uphold the values that make Fiji unique — respect, humility, and compassion — as he joined thousands of Fijians in celebrating Fiji’s 55th Independence Day in Sydney yesterday.

Liverpool’s Woodward Park was transformed into a sea of blue and white as members of the Fijian diaspora gathered yesterday with pride, waving the national flag and celebrating the unity and warmth that define their island home.

Speaking as Chief Guest, Prime Minister Rabuka thanked the Fijian community in Australia for their continued love and support for Fiji.

“Even though you are far from Fiji, your hearts remain close,” he said.

“Through your remittances, your families, and your prayers, you continue to strengthen our nation. Vinaka vakalevu for your contributions back home.”

Mr Rabuka highlighted that $448.5 million in remittances had been sent from Fijians abroad in the first four months of this year, helping sustain families and communities across the islands.

“You have lifted the lives of so many people back home. Thank you all very much for your contributions through remittances.”

“Be proud of who you are. Uphold the values that make us Fijians — respect, humility, and compassion. Wherever you are, live in a way that makes others see the best of Fiji in you.”

Mr Rabuka also thanked the Government and people of Australia for their ongoing friendship under the Vuvale Partnership, describing Australia as “a true friend to Fiji.”
