Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is to visit India soon.
This has been revealed by government in a statement after the 6th Foreign Office Consultation held yesterday in Suva between Fiji and India.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Prof Biman Prasad, welcomed the Indian delegation led by Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Also present were Ms. Pramita Tripathi, Joint Secretary (Oceania), and His Excellency Mr. Suneet Mehta, High Commissioner of India to Fiji.
A key topic of discussion was the reciprocal exchange of sites for diplomatic missions in Suva and New Delhi.
Fiji has confirmed that the lease process for India’s new Chancery and Cultural Centre in Nasese is close to completion — a development that will be formally recognised during Prime Minister Rabuka’s official visit to India.
Also on the agenda is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Bureau of Indian Standards and Fiji’s Department of National Trade Measurement and Standards, expected to take place during the Prime Minister’s visit.
Other areas of cooperation discussed included the 100-bed Super Speciality Cardiology Hospital in Suva, for which land has been allocated and preparatory work is already underway.
