Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has ordered an independent investigation into allegations surrounding Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru’s January 2025 travel to New Zealand under the sponsorship of the Fiji Sports Council.
In a media statement issued this evening, Mr Rabuka confirmed he met with Mr Saukuru today to inform him of the decision to commission the probe.
The investigation will also examine separate allegations of abuse of funds levelled against Fiji Sports Council chief executive Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure.
Mr Rabuka said Mr Saukuru has assured him that he will not interfere with the investigation in any way.
