Unity Fiji party has welcomed the leaking of the Commission of Inquiry report that looked into the appointment of the Commissioner of Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.
Party leader Savenaca Narube said “please, let the truth prevail.”
“This is a critical test case for the future of Fiji,” said Mr Narube.
“If we fail this test, I fear that that the country is destined to go down the slippery slope of corruption which will destroy the future of this lovely country, hurt the poorest the most, and be extremely difficult to reverse.”
“We welcome the leakage of the report. It would not have happened if the PM has released the report quickly.”
“The leaking of the report ensures that there would be no cover ups.”
Mr Narube added the people implicated in the report should be given the opportunity to clear their names.
“They have the chance to do this in a court of law. If they win, they will clear their name, and the government will pick up the cost.”
“As the leader of Unity Fiji, I ask the country to rally around the truth. Truth must prevail.”
“We urge the Prime Minister to muster the courageto implement the recommendations in the COI report and get the cases to the courts as soon as possible. We are confident that our judicial system will give everyone the justice that they deserve.”
