Fiji’s major news organisations are joining forces for the first time to host two public town halls in the Northern Division.

The “Meet the Public and the Press” forums, organised under the Fiji Media Association (FMA), will feature Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad in Labasa and other senior ministers in Savusavu.

The events will take place on July 23 in Savusavu and July 24 in Labasa, and will be broadcast live across all major media platforms.

“This is a great opportunity for people to voice their opinions and talk to the Government,” said The Fiji Times editor-in-chief Fred Wesley.

“Our first time in the North doing something like this. I believe it is going to be groundbreaking and something new for a lot of people. This is about getting a feel for the pulse of the nation.”

The Fiji Sun, CFL, FBC, Fiji TV, Mai TV and Fiji Live are partnering on the event, supported by the US embassy.

Citizens will be able to directly question leaders on health, education, infrastructure, rural development and economic issues.
