FIJIANS now have access to the nation’s first certified cyclone-engineered steel home—designed to withstand Category 5 conditions.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka while officiating at the launch of the Cyclone Engineered Certified Affordable Housing at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva last night.

“Fiji deserves homes that can stand strong homes that protect our people and offer peace of mind, no matter the forecast. This cyclone-proof steel home is the first of its kind in Fiji—designed, tested, and certified to withstand even the most severe Category 5 conditions,” Mr Rabuka said.

He said the cyclone-resilient homes represent the best of what can be achieved when government, industry, and communities work together.

“It is a fusion of modern engineering, sustainable materials, and traditional values—crafted not just for strength but for dignity.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by Fijian communities, particularly those vulnerable to climate-related disasters.

“For too long, our families—especially in vulnerable communities—have borne the brunt of increasingly powerful cyclones.

“We have all seen the heartbreak that follows when winds tear through wooden homes, when roofs are ripped away, and when the very foundations of shelter are left in ruins. But today, we take a bold step forward.”

Under the leadership of Sunil Pal, Professional Homes and Consultant Limited, the company behind this innovation has built cyclone-resilient steel homes and schools across the Pacific, including on Tanna Island in Vanuatu and Vava’u in Tonga.

The company’s footprint also extends to New Zealand, where it has successfully developed steel homes, schools, and ablution blocks—designed with safety and durability in mind.

Recognising the urgent need for affordable and resilient housing in Fiji, the company is now establishing operations locally.

In addition to residential housing, Professional Homes also develops commercial buildings and concrete homes, expanding options for safe and sustainable infrastructure throughout the country.

Company director Shiraz Shah said they are honoured to contribute to Fiji’s housing solutions in the face of intensifying climate threats.

“These cyclone-engineered homes are designed not just to meet technical standards but to bring peace of mind to Fijian families.

“Every structure we build is guided by one goal: to protect life and property through resilience,” he said.

“Our team is passionate about delivering practical solutions that are affordable, scalable, and sustainable.

“We look forward to expanding our operations in Fiji and working closely with local communities to strengthen housing infrastructure across the islands.”
