The family and the vanua play a crucial role in welcoming back home those who have fallen victim to drug abuse.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka at the Kadavu Provincial Council meeting in Suva yesterday.
Mr Rabuka said as the fight against drugs intensified, families and the communities needed to step up to look after their own people.
“Whatever we do, whatever our role is in national development whether it be at provincial level, Cabinet, Parliament or chiefly level – we are looking after people of God,” Mr Rabuka said.
He told the people of Kadavu to make use of their God-given resources to empower them to become self-sufficient and contribute to nation-building.
Mr Rabuka urged the people to use their voices during provincial meetings to raise awareness on developments back in the villages which could contribute to the formulation of the National Development Plan (NDP).
While highlighting the Government’s initiatives for the iTaukei people, Mr Rabuka apologised for the delay in the development of the province.
He said that under the new budget, the Government would work towards completing development projects.
The meeting concludes today.
