Fiji’s 55th Independence Anniversary was marked with pride and unity across the globe as six Cabinet ministers joined Fijian communities overseas to officiate at Fiji Day celebrations.
In Geelong, Melbourne, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh urged young Fijians to embrace leadership and innovation to build a better future for the nation.
“To our young people, this is your moment,” said Minister Singh.
“You inherit a story of courage and hope, written by those who came before you. Take that story forward with boldness. Dream big, serve faithfully, and let your generation be the bridge that connects Fiji’s past to its future.”
In South Australia’s Limestone Coast region, Minister for Information Lynda Tabuya joined Fijian and Pacific workers under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme to mark the occasion in Naracoorte.
“You are not just workers. You are ambassadors of Fiji,” Minister Tabuya said.
“You bring the values of respect, humility, and service into every community you touch. Your hard work and unity bring pride to our nation.”
Across the Tasman in Auckland, New Zealand, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran praised the Fijian diaspora for their continued connection to home.
“The Emerald Jubilee is not just a commemoration of sovereignty—it is a celebration of unity, resilience, and progress,” Minister Kiran said.
“Our new National Development Plan focuses on rebuilding schools, hospitals, and essential infrastructure while ensuring that no one is left behind.”
In Wellington, New Zealand, Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga officiated at celebrations with the local Fijian community, extending greetings from Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka.
“This is a day to rejoice and be glad for the blessings God has bestowed upon our beloved nation,” Minister Turaga said.
“The saying ‘You can take a Fijian out of Fiji, but not Fiji out of a Fijian’ truly captures the pride and belonging reflected here today.”
Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka celebrated Fiji Day at the Fiji Embassy during his visit to Israel for the Feast of Tabernacle at the invitation of the International Christian Embassy.
The Prime Minister was guest at Fiji Day celebrations in Liverpool, Australia. Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifireimi Vasu was also at the same event.
Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa was also in Australia for Fiji Day celebrations.
