ROKO Tui Cakaudrove Filimoni Naiqumu has reminded people in Wailevu and Nasavusavu districts of Cakaudrove to work with their village headmen to prevent the spread of dengue.
Mr Naiqumu said they visited several villages and encouraged health workers to work with villagers to combat the spread of dengue.
“Dengue, as we all know, is a serious case in some parts of Vanua Levu and to prevent it from spreading, we need to work together and destroy all breeding places,” he said.
Mr Naiqumu said he was delighted with the response from villagers, but what they needed was to put words into practice.
“We still need more awareness in the villages and we’re working on it and we hope to educate and enlighten people on the importance of cleaning their surroundings,” he said.
“We will be spraying through villages, but we feel that there is still room for more awareness to be done so people could come out in numbers during the clean-up campaign.”
Mr Naiqumu said they had come up with other ways to prevent the spread of dengue.
“We plan to raise more awareness on dengue in our next district meeting, which will be held next Monday,” he said.
“In that meeting we will inform villages to take ownership of the move towards preventing the spread of dengue.”
