The High Court in Lautoka has deferred the plea of a TikToker facing multiple cyber crime charges to May 19.

Ana Masere appeared before Justice Sunil Sharma yesterday charged with two counts of causing harm by posting electronic communication, two counts of indecently annoying a person and one count of breaching bail conditions.

Ms Masere allegedly posted a TikTok video containing disparaging remarks regarding the complainant, Ashika Sharma. It is further alleged that Ms Sharma attempted suicide following the publication of the post.

State lawyer Praneeta Prakash informed the court that while the matter was listed for plea, the prosecution required further time to submit necessary documentation.

Ms Prakash also informed the court that transcribed copies of the caution interview had been served on the defence; however, the discs were yet to be submitted.

Defence lawyer Viraat Anand suggested a late April plea date, but the court ultimately settled on the May 19 for the plea.

Mr Anand also raised a miscellaneous application seeking the return of Ms Masere’s mobile phone to which Justice Sharma indicated that this specific application would be heard separately on April 16.

Justice Sharma extended Ms Masere’s bail and adjourned the matter for plea.
