THE Fiji Rugby Union believes the value of the players would increase after playing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.
FRU chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu said the players had sacrificed their pay from their respective clubs which would not go in vain.
“The players represented the nation in the Rugby World Cup signed a legally binding contract,” he said.
“There were certain things the players had to deliver for the team.
“We have paid all the dues that were supposed to be paid to the players. We are now finalising our accounts for the World Cup.”
Tabualevu said they had plans in place for the next edition of the Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019.
“The players also sacrificed their three months pay from their respective clubs so that they could play for Fiji,” he revealed.
“They also had pay cut as well and for that we will always be grateful for them. I strongly think after the world cup with such performance their values will also increase. The people have seen a good performance would now see we have got number of plans lined up for the coming years.”
He said they would receive funds from the parent body World Rugby based on the performance of the team.
“All the countries who participated in the World Cup received funds. We have also received funds,” he said.
“The funding depended on the performance of the team and where the team is on the world ranking.
“World Rugby is always there to support us and we have showed that we are worthy of it on the field and outside as well,” he added.
