The Government yesterday launched its “National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050” in Suva, outlining significant steps to the country’s future trajectory.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad, whose ministry spearheaded the NDP’s formulation, said the NDP document was a crucial response to both national and global challenges.

“This national development plan emerges at a critical moment intended to respond to our pressing global, regional and national challenges and shape our prospects as a nation and that define the limits of our shared future,” Prof Prasad said.

He said the plan, developed through extensive consultations, represents a comprehensive and inclusive vision for Fiji’s future.

“My message to Fiji is that this is your plan, and we are stewards of this plan. If you are a young person anxious about jobs and a future security, a women fatigued by years of talk to end gender discrimination and gender inequality without results, an elderly and disabled and worried about the future with care and dignity, an ITaukei, anxious about the future of sustainability and opportunity in the rural and maritime areas, an indo-Fijian worried about the future of security and opportunity, know that this is your plan. This plan belongs to all of us,” Prof Prasad said.

He said while the government will lead the initiative, the success of the plan hinges on collective effort from the business community, civil society and youth and that the plan addresses the concerns of diverse groups, including youth, women, the elderly, and marginalised communities, reinforcing that this plan belongs to all Fijians.

“We are on this shared journey together, and nothing in the world can stop our progress if we remain united on this national journey to rebuild a great country and realise its potential for our people,” Prof Prasad said.

The NDP aims to drive Fiji towards resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity, setting a clear path for economic vitality and improved well-being.

The event was attended by government officials, the diplomatic corps and community leaders.
