A former Roko Tui Naitasiri told government officials at the National Development Plan public consultations in Raralevu about the 50/50 2020 Plan by the Socialist Democratic Liberal (SDL) government that was supposed to have been implemented before its premature exit in 2006.

Peni Sotia said the Fijian Initiative of the Qarase government was the way forward for the iTaukei because it ensured incentives and provided the potential to catch up with the other races economically.

“It was specifically designed for us to progress as the program was tailor-made for our advancement in all aspects of life and business,”Mr Sotia said.

Mr Sotia asked ministry officials if the Government could reconsider the scheme and reintroduce it for the betterment of the iTaukei.

Ministry official Sekove Nakavono told Mr Sotia his suggestion would be given consideration.
