TEST results for the pina colada incident in December last year has yet to reach Government.
The incident at a Sigatoka resort landed a number of tourists in hospital where they were treated for suspected food poisoning.
Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka said despite reaching out, the New Zealand laboratory where the tests were sent have yet to be released.
Mr Gavoka said the resort and medical team had been open and transparent with authorities and the public.
“We were very open about the pina colada thing. You know, the resort responsible, they were up front with everything, the medical team. And our communication was very honest,” he said.
“We still don’t know the outcome of that investigation. It’s a mystery. We sent samples overseas to New Zealand and we don’t know what happened there.
“And it’s not a reflection of how we treat our people. People know that we care.”
Mr Gavoka emphasised that, despite the unresolved nature of the incident, Fiji remains a safe destination and that authorities had been transparent in handling the situation.
“What stands in our favour is that we are known to be a people who care, friendly people.
“And we are not afraid to openly address these issues. When you are honest with them, they come to realise there was really nothing to worry about.”
