An old mobile phone belonging to former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama has been retrieved by police and will have its data extracted, the High Court in Suva heard yesterday.

Senior State lawyer Pooja Mishra also notified Justice Thushara Rajasinghe that the State planned to call five additional witnesses in the trial of Mr Bainimarama and former police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho.

Mr Bainimarama is accused of directing the acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu to terminate the services of Sergeant Penieli Ratei and Constable Tomasi Naulu.

The charge alleges Mr Tudravu was told he would have to resign if he failed to dismiss the two officers.

Qiliho faces two counts of abuse of office for allegedly reviewing the disciplinary decision made by Mr Tudravu.

Mr Bainimarama’s bail was extended to today, along with Qiliho’s production order.
