Persistent rainfall has caused partial flooding in Soasoa this morning, affecting several homes, farms and access roads in low-lying parts of the community.

Residents say crop fields were among the first to go underwater as rain continued overnight.

As of 9.16am, the Labasa River had risen to 2.6 metres, with authorities closely monitoring conditions as more rain is expected throughout the day.

Officials warn that if heavy rain persists, the river may burst its banks, posing a threat to nearby settlements and flood-prone areas.

In Naodamu, a few homes in Block 10 are surrounded by floodwaters after the Nasekula River burst its banks.

While compounds are inundated, residents say water has not yet entered their houses.

In Block 9, floodwaters have not reached homes, but drains behind several properties are rapidly filling, raising concerns among families who are familiar with frequent flooding in the area.

Residents across both communities say they are watching water levels closely and preparing in case conditions worsen.

No evacuation orders have been issued, but families are taking precautionary steps as a safety measure.

Authorities are urging caution as water levels continue to rise and unstable weather persists. Emergency teams are on standby and monitoring the situation throughout the day.
