THE country’s fastest horse will face an uphill battle at the Ba Motor Parts-sponsored Ba Horse Race scheduled at the Namosau Horserace track.
Pepsi after dominating the mile and quarter races last year in beating arch rival Babasiga Lion in three races, the Ba-based horse is being lined-up against Dina King of Ba and Termite of Lautoka in the main race.
Tournament official Sunil Sharma said Pepsi had stamped its dominance as the fastest in the mile and quarter event having won three titles last year.
He said Pepsi would be tested against two new competitors at the coming race.
“It will be an exciting battle because two horses have been lined up to challenge Pepsi for the top award,” said Sharma.
“Dina King has also won many races last year but in different category and it will be interesting to see the competition against Pepsi.
“Another competitor —— Termite of Saweni, Lautoka, has been confirmed to challenge the two Ba horses.”
Sharma said a total of 74 participants had been registered for 17 title races. He said this would be the first race for the season and most would want to stamp their mark in this event.
“There will be 17 title races and the winners will receive trophy and prizemoney. The prizes will inspire the horse owners to train their horses well and come prepared for the race.”
Sharma thanked Ba Motors for supporting the sport through their sponsorship
