THE Vanuabalavu Day festival allow islanders to keep their traditional values and customs alive.
These were the sentiments shared by the CEO of the Vanuabalavu Vision Ltd, Tomi Finau, during the celebrations which is being held at the ANZ Stadium car park at Laucala Bay, Suva.
He said the group had 17 villages on four different islands with 14 villages in the main island.
“In consultation with the people, the organising committee has set targets for each village,” he said.
“For the big villages they have set a target for $25,000 each while smaller villages target $15,000.”
Villages would decide whether funds raised should be invested in the company or used for village development projects.
Mr Finau said on the first day of the festival they managed to raise $142,537.
“We have those from overseas who have come to Fiji just for this festival and we would like to thank them for taking out time to come.
“This festival is also a way of keeping our relationships alive as each village is interrelated so it’s a big family reunion for many of us.”
