THE People First party has officially identified itself as the political successor to the deregistered FijiFirst Party.
Speaking at the party launch last Saturday, leader Inia Seruiratu said the party was formed after the deregistration of FijiFirst in July 2023, arguing that the move left thousands of supporters without their chosen political representation.
Mr Seruiratu said former FijiFirst members who remained in Parliament as independents had the freedom to choose their own political paths but decided to remain committed to those who had voted them into office.
“During that critical period, we faced immense pressure, but we stood our ground because of you that voted us in,” he said.
“We refused to compromise the faith you placed in us. We chose to stand firm for Fijians who believe in equality, integrity, respect, and national unity.”
He said those circumstances led to the creation of People First.
Mr Seruiratu also said the party would not release a manifesto before consulting the public, saying community input would shape its policy platform.
He also criticised the current state of governance, saying promises of improved transparency, accountability and higher standards had not been fulfilled.
Mr Seruiratu said People First aimed to offer an alternative built on constitutional principles and a commitment to honesty and collaboration with the public.
