Outside of work, Isha Kumar finds joy in reading, scenic drives, and spending quality time with her family.
The payroll executive for Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort recently graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Information Systems, a milestone, according to her, has sharpened her technical and analytical skills.
“From a young age, I was fascinated by how money works not just spending it, but understanding its power to create opportunities,” she said.
“Over time, I’ve come to see finance not just as numbers, but as a tool for strategy, trust, and empowering informed decisions.
“What began as childhood curiosity has grown into a fulfilling career. Every day brings new learning, and that keeps me inspired.
“Beyond the office, I’m passionate about giving back. I’m actively involved in leadership and community initiatives such as the Next Gen Business Council, Mangrove Rangers, and Women Empowerment Programs.
“I also volunteer as a part-time Sunday teacher with the Sai-International Organisation, helping young minds embrace discipline and values for a brighter future.”
She said as a proud member of Soroptimist International, she contributed to projects that uplift women and support voluntary efforts.
“I’m also an alumna of the Emerging Leaders Forum (Cohort 9), under the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, where I’ve honed my leadership, advocacy, and decision-making skills alongside inspiring young women from diverse backgrounds.
“In my two years in the industry, I’ve gained hands-on-experience in payroll processing, reporting, and compliance, skills that have helped me grow both professionally and personally.”
Ms Kumar said her greatest motivation comes from knowing that the work she does behind the scenes directly impacts the well-being of our associates.
“Ensuring they feel valued gives me a deep sense of purpose.
“Marriott’s culture of integrity, teamwork, and excellence continues to inspire me. Initiatives like NextGen Business Council, mangrove planting, and hapkido training have enriched my journey, helping me connect with colleagues, develop new skills, and contribute to meaningful causes.
“Outside of work, I find joy in reading, scenic drives, and spending quality time with my family. Dancing is another passion, its led me to explore traditional dance forms that celebrate culture and creativity.
“A typical day involves managing payroll data, collaborating across departments, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. The most exciting moments come when I get to work with cross-functional teams, introduce process improvements, or engage in leadership initiatives.
“Every opportunity to learn and connect. Whether it’s a new system, project, or team, everything contributes to your growth. Stay curious, be open-minded, and always support your colleagues. “Teamwork truly makes all the difference.”
