People are key to success, says Hopgood

HAVING an outstanding team and being prepared for any situation is key to the success of any business.

And Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager Peter Hopgood says his team is the epitome of the popular family getaway’s success and is the reason people keep coming back to the Korotogo property.

“This year has been tough, like most resorts you really have to work hard to get the business,” he said.

“And the perception still is that Fiji is an expensive destination, but having said that we have had quite a good year and we will be better than 2016 and we hope that continues on into 2018.

“And I really have to take my hat off to my team at the Outrigger Fiji, they are the reason people keep coming back here.”

Mr Hopgood said with the cyclone season about to begin, his team had been briefed and the resort was ready for any eventuality.

“We have an unbelievable cyclone plan, we work from when the cyclone is named and we can totally shutdown our resort in six hours.

“Our staff has been trained in this and they execute the shutdown very efficiently.

“We evacuate all our low-lying areas and bring all our guests up top and we have facilities where we can deliver meals while in shutdown mode.

“We have been through Evan in 2012 and Winston in 2016 and we had winds over 250kmph over the resort and our buildings have stood strong because they are capable of withstanding category five cyclones,” said Hopgood.
