Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu says a growing wave of allegations has seen “almost everyone” in the Fiji Police Force being named, but he has urged the public to provide evidence rather than rely on accusations that undermine the entire organisation.
Speaking at a press conference, Tudravu said the Police Force has nothing to hide and welcomes credible information.
“People are naming almost everyone in the Fiji Police Force, including me. If there is evidence, I will step aside for investigations. There is nothing to hide,” he said.
The COMPOL stressed that investigations can only proceed on the basis of verified information.
“If you want investigations to be done into police officers or anyone for that matter, you need to come up with evidence. If your life is under threat, let us know,” he added.
Tudravu said he has taken the allegations seriously since assuming office and views public scrutiny as part of restoring trust. However, he cautioned against broadly discrediting the entire Force.
“The problem is people are painting the whole organisation with one brush. They do not see what the Fiji Police Force has done from the start until now, or the contribution we continue to make,” he said.
He acknowledged that no police organisation in the world is completely free of misconduct but said strong leadership is essential to address wrongdoing.
“It is our responsibility as leaders to confront these issues and bring officers back in line with the standards expected,” Tudravu said.
